Fownes Mill Condominiums - The History

The Goodwin & Trask Box Shop, manufacturers of wooden and paper boxes, was formed in 1888 and was the original business at this location.  It was one of the many manufacturers that availed itself of the excellent waterpower of the Cocheco River.

This business was purchased by Archie Fownes in 1910 and operated for several decades under the name of Fownes Mill.  It was later operated by M.B. Claff and Sons until a devastating fire leveled most of the original mill buildings.

The last business to operate there was an auto repair facility, amusingly known as “Camaro Heaven”.
